Re: PDP and the Peter Obi Gambit

The claim that the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) is attempting to “profit off the name of its most daunting opposition” as claimed by one Emeka Ugwu in the title to which I hereby respond is founded on ignorant mischief and inability to properly comprehend the invisible hand guiding the electioneering process. It is a kind of poor interpretation of the mind of the people, the electorate, who no longer pander to the barriers of party politics.

To know a thing is to know it in opposition to other things. Knowledge is comparative and that is why modern day research takes prime interest in interdisciplinary dimensions of research in order to account for all sides with which the object of study shares border. Once a word is mentioned, it casts shadows of all its former usages and opposing thoughts and meanings about itself. Knowledge is also cognitive and finds practical application in solving problems. So, when the Labour Party neophytic apologists talk about the attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State to ‘profit off Obi”, whatever that means, it points to their lack of the needed depth to properly interprete the political situation beyond the surface configuration. Well, no one can launch beyond their depth. Was it not for lack of depth that the servile herds that populate Labour Party candidacies in Enugu State failed woefully at the PDP primaries? They are imitators of imitation, and imitation never rises above the original. Who cares about the gorillas hopping from one tree to the other in fruitless desperation!

The Obidient Movement is their albatross. It is an emerging political force that rises above the limitations of party politics. As far as the Obidient is concerned, party is not a barrier. The Obidient is eclectic, and so looks for the best that is known in the land. Therefore, it is not about any political party. Obidient is a barometer for measuring the best candidates irrespective of the party to which they belong. So, when the Obidient magnet identifies Peter Mbah of the PDP in Enugu State, having comparatively viewed him from the prism of the resources Peter Obi embodies, they found shared estates between the Peters- not necessarily in name but in thoughts, character, competence, capacity, actions and antecedents.

So, it is not about the PDP trying to profit from anything as it is about the rhythm of association that has found the Peters congruent. Labour Party in Enugu State is expected to cry for having allowed the rejected derelicts from other parties to infiltrate it; the Obidient magnet finds them stolid. These politically disabled men flying Labour Party tickets in Enugu State are rather the ones trying to profit off Peter Obi. Incidentally, Obi himself has distanced himself from them despite their desperate cry and shouts of “Candidates! Candidates! Candidates!” In fact, all the perfume of Arabia cannot sweeten these soiled hands. Obi has shown he has no interest in them. The Obidients seem to be saying, “Paul and Barnabas we know. Who are you? Peter Obi we know. Who are you?”

Emeka Ugwu, the faceless author of the piece, also claims that the PDP credited a fake Christmas message to the governorship candidate of the Labour Party. Why should the PDP be bothered about a party that has no candidate? By the way, who is the governorship candidate of the Labour Party to whom the said Christmas message was credited? The one rambunctiously throwing tantrums? The father of false propaganda, flying campaigns of calumny here and there? Is there anything that one is not capable of saying in his witless drive of overambition? Why would the PDP bother to credit anything false to him when he has even said weightier things than that? Has Emeka forgotten that by the judgment of a federal hight court which still subsists that Labour Party does not have a governorship candidate in Enugu State. A thing would not be and still be. That is the simple law of divided middle in elementary logic. Nemo dat quod non habet. The fact is that the PDP towers like the Iroko in Enugu State and has no interest in the heavy load the ant carries on its head. There is no need for that. Those who lay claims to championship at the Labour Party in Enugu State could not play at the second division in the PDP. So, why this fall beyond where the carcass could be gathered?

Quite another is the claim that the PDP is a party in disarray in Enugu State whereupon it seeks salvation with Obi’s name. That is wishful and poorly imaginative. At no time had the PDP in the state grown stronger than now with the indomitable brand of candidates the party showcases. The Mbah/ Ossai ticket has remained unexampled and the people of Enugu State are yearning for it because of the roadmap to good governance the bearees have presented in their manifesto. Meanwhile, the Pinnacle miracle which Labour had tried without success to demonize has shown Peter Mbah’s antecedents and capacity for disruptive innovation and the ability to wrought astronomical economic growth as he proposes. Those parading themselves as Labour Party candidates have no manifesto. Where is the place of electioneering without manifesto in the annals of success at the polls? Their own manifesto is the weak display of vulgarity and lack of verbal higeine.Such indecorous rascality driven to the point of shamelessness is one of the many banes of the stultified Enugu Labour Party which Peter Obi would not be associated with.

As a matter of fact, the 2023 polls are already lost and won. The Enugu Obidients are not interested in party politics. They are looking for the best that is known and politically thought in Nigeria. That they have seen similarities between Peter Obi and Peter Mbah is no fault of the PDP. This is one advantage of presenting a brand asset to the political market. It sells itself. Peter Obi is a brand asset; Peter Mbah a brand promise. Both have won the love, respect and acceptance of the Obidient Movement. Let those who choose to labour in vain cry their cry. The PDP has no hand in their self-inflicted misfortune.
