'She is afraid to fail': Why Ekwunife turned down award

The outgoing senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has declined an award from a group named “100 Achievers” following her nomination as the ‘Woman of the Year.’

 

The 100 Achievers Award is the most respected and gun for award in Anambra State, as it only recognize who is worked for the people and making them proud. Call it the Forbes of Anambra State.

 

Established in 2020, the award recognizes men and women from the state who have done outstanding things in their careers or vocations in the year under review.

 

On Friday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senator conveyed her gratitude to the organisation for considering her worthy to receive such honour. She however asked that her name be excluded from the list.

 

In a statement issued by the Senator’s Special Assistant on Media, Kingsley Ubani, Ekwunife wished the organisation a successful event, while disclosing that she arrived at the decision based on personal grounds.

When contacted, a source who is familiar with the drama said;

“Did we nominate her?

She’s afraid to fail”

 

Senator Uche Ekwunife who was nominated for “Anambra Woman of the Year” said she is  “declining the nomination on personal grounds.”

 

Top among the names that made the list of nominees for Anambra Woman 2022 include, renowned author, Chimamanda Adichie; wife of the governor of Anambra state, Nonye Soludo and wives of two former governors of the State, Margaret Obi, Ebele Obiano and Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Stella Odua.

 

Also, on the list are, respected academia and deputy Vice Chancellor, Paul University, Professor Stella Okunna; Former Minister for Education, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili; Member representing Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Lynda Ikpeazu; MD Fidelity Bank, Nneka Onyeali Ikpe; CEO Cutix Plc, Ijeoma Oduonye; Commissioner for women and children’s Affairs, Ify Obinabo; Founder, Sisters’ fellowship International, Mrs Nches Iredu; CEO , Britannia U Oil, Mrs Uju Ifejika; first female Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (South East , Chapter), Lady Engr Ada Chukwudozie and Permanent Secretary, Police Service Commission, Dr Ifeoma Anyanwutaku.
