House of Representatives member-elect in Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Aluko Ahmed Yinka, has congratulated the duo of Hajia Lawal Arinola and Hajia Maryam Aladi, who won the Ilorin East and South Kwara State House of Assembly seats, respectively, in the March 18 general elections.

Hon. Aluko described their victory as ‘breaking the glass ceiling’ as no two women have simultaneously led the two constituencies at a time in the history of the state, further describing that it is a great win for the women in the state and across the country, especially the generation of the girl-child who are optimistic about their place in the future, dreaming day by day to bring their determination to pass.

The duo were declared winners for their respective constituencies, “having satisfied the requirements of the law and returned elected” by the returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of today.

“I wish to congratulate Hajia Lawal Arinola and Hajia Maryam Aladi for their victories at the polls in Ilorin East and South constituencies, respectively. This victory belongs to every woman out there striving to become a better person in society and challenging the status quo that has brought so much retrogression to women in every society. This is going to be a lot of inspiration for our girls, who are full of optimism and hope about what the future holds for them. It is their victory, indeed.

Aluko also congratulates other APC candidates for their well-deserved victories and urges them to sustain the credible representation of their respective constituents.

He did, however, thank the people who have come out en masse to vote and for the show of love and support that earned both candidates victory, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the people as they can’t afford to renege on their campaign promises given the enormous amount of trust placed in them.
