Gov. Ortom recovers from Covid-19; calls for arrest of Miyetti Allah; endorses guns for Nigerians

Why Ortom should be suspended from PDP

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Wednesday announced that the result of his samples tested for COVID-19 has returned negative.

The Governor said this while addressing journalists in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

He appreciated the people of the state, his friends and supporters across the country for their prayers during the period of self-isolation.

The governor, who has resumed duties immediately, thanked his deputy, Benson Abounu who stood in his place while he was in isolation.

Ortom urged the people of the state to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols.

Last week, the governor tested positive for COVID-19 after a close aide also returned positive.

The Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, who made the announcement, noted that the governor did not show any symptoms of the disease.

Meanwhile, Gov. Samuel Ortom has called for the arrest of the leadership of Miyetti Allah.

He said this must be done if the Federal government wants peace in the country.

Ortom said this on Wednesday, 3rd, during a meeting at Benue state.

He said members of the group have owned up to carrying out nefarious activities and wonders why the Federal government is yet to act.

”This country belongs to all of us and the presidency must act fast because time is going. From North West, North East, North Central, South West, South East, South South, there is general insecurity and this being propelled by herdsmen.

“I have made it a petition to the President and all security agencies before, that if they want peace, Miyetti Allah must be arrested. These are people who have owned up. They have taken responsibility that they kill, they maim, they rape and do all sorts of atrocities and yet their leadership is in Abuja and nobody is confronting them.

“When I talked, I was castigated. I was villified. Nothing bad that wasn’t said about me. The reality is here now. It is not just happening to Benue state today. It is happening to the entire country.

Why is the Federal government being silent about these Fulani herdsmen?” he asked.

The eloquent Governor has also called on the FG to allow Nigerians own guns.

He called for this also on Wednesday, saying when Nigerians are given the licence to own guns, the security challenges facing the country, especially the incessant herdsmen/farmers crisis will stop.

This is in addendum with Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba’s earlier suggestion of FG allowing all Nigerian citizens to own licensed guns in order to secure themselves, insisting that security has degenerated.

Also, Gov. Ortom who accused President Muhammadu Buhari of nepotism, said the Federal Government deliberately refused to caution the armed Fulani men against killing innocent Nigerians.

He said he had once asked the Federal Government to grant him arm license, adding that “when an armed Fulani man is aware I have a gun, he would be scared of coming close”.

He urged the president to live up to his promise of “I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody”, adding that with the current security situation in the country, Buhari is for only the Fulani men.

Governor Ortom said: “This country belongs to all of us and the presidency must act fast because time is going.

“Why is the Federal Government quiet about this Fulani matter? When will the Federal Government come out to criticize and arrest these Fulani men carrying AK-47? Are we second class citizens in this country?”
